September 16, 2008 Arrive in Kennebunkport

I spent a wonderful morning in Kennebunkport!! I first walked the grounds of the monestery. It was very peaceful and meditative. There were statues along the walk with the sounds of nature and running water. I then partook in a scrumptious and very generous breakfast buffet. Overstuffed, I found my way into a school library to work on blog. It had been recommended to me the day before to go for a 2 hr. schooner ride. It was to depart at 11 am and return at 1pm. I met the crew (Kim and Derik) and the caption Rick (who built the boat!). There were 8 of us on board. During the short duration we all shared stories of how we came to Kennebunkport. All were inpired by my journey and wished me luck. Kim actually supplied me with a fabulous, scenic route to Portland. I got on the road @ 2pm. I went along Rt. 9 most of the way, but ducked into many coastal villages. To name a few - Cape Porpoise, Goose Rocks and Fortune Rocks. I went through Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth and finally into Portland. It was a great ride including some large, gentle rollers. I rode a three mile section of the Eastern Trailway that was packed gravel. Rt. 77N brought me over the bridge and into Portland. It turned out to be a 58 mile ride. I made it to Portland at 6:15, just in time to meet my host at the bike shop he works at. I followed him to his house and met his wife Cindy. We had a late dinner of panini and salad.
